Hi lj. I've had a real update planned for a while, but we'll see if I ever get around to actually sitting down & writing it.
In the meantime: I'll be at the DNA tonight for the Funker Vogt show if anyone else is going. I can't believe I haven't seen them live before? WHY? There is no good reason.
Also, is anyone else interested in going to the Franz Ferdinand show at the Fox Theatre in Oakland? I believe it's 4/15 (Wednesday). WTB show-buddy!

One would question whether the fact that the study solicited participants via Self magazine had an impact on the results, because I think it's pretty clear that that's a pretty targeted demographic and not necessarily representative of the general populace. For example, "Findings show that: * 75 percent of women report disordered eating behaviors or symptoms consistent with eating disorders; so three out of four have an unhealthy relationship with food or their bodies," really only shows that "75% of women who read Self magazine and are inclined to respond to surveys" have such a relationship. I'd even go so far as to argue, anecdotally, that most women who do have a healthy relationship with their bodies and/or food aren't reading Self magazine. Interesting nonetheless.

A month ago (a month already? jeez!) I made a post about an upcoming The Devil Makes Three show thatdesl and I were planning on attending, but which ended up selling out, much to our dismay. So! BE FOREWARNED: they're playing again on 1/16 & 1/17 at the Independent in SF. I just bought my tickets for the Saturday 1/17 show; they're available via Ticketweb. Get 'em now!

The other one didn't even get up off the bed, instead chosing to give me the old, "what the shit are you doing out of bed at this ungodly hour?" grimace when I turned the bathroom light on. FUN!

these people have a record contract and they tour (albeit they play places like SAN JOSE SKATE, but still!). WTF!
edit: according to their myspace, they call themselves 'crunk.' i think my brain just broke.

This evening the illustriousdesl and I are going to The Devil Makes Three's show at The Starry Plough. It should be awesome! As Dan put it, they make the sort of music that punk rockers would make when they decide to go back to their bluegrass roots. We're planning on getting there around 9pm. If anyone is interested in dinner beforehand (either with or without going to the show!) we're planning something for 7ish - either at Dan's or out. Let one of us know!

I wanted to write something insightful and thoughtful about how these images represent what I feel is a long overdue shift towards global unification and cooperation - a global citizenry, if you will - but seeing as I just don't really have the time right now I'll leave it at that. I was really impressed with the tangible feeling I got during Obama's speech last night that FINALLY we will have a president who understands that we're all basically in this together, and that national lines are largely artificial constructs because, despite all our cultural differences, we're all still Homo sapiens. Whatever happens in our country will affect the lives of people all across the globe, which is a fact it would be imprudent and unethical to ignore or simply discount. Down with isolationism/unilateralism, up with diplomacy and international collaboration!
Have I ever mentioned I'm a big fan of the (ideas behind the) United Nations?
...Just so long as we heed the cautionary tale of the galactic empire!
